North Milton Keynes – Installation Of Hotbird 80Cm Steel Dish

Milton Keynes Satellite Services were recommended to this customer to re-install this 80 cm Fortec Star Dish at a site in North Milton Keynes. This satellite provided fantastic reception in what can only be described as an awkward spot, a ground floor flat (hence dish has to be just above ground level) in a densely wooded area. The direction of the satellite is directly behind some very tall trees. However the dish provides ample signal quality to maintain a good picture even during heavy rain showers. We know it rained for most of the installation day!

The customer also took the opportunity to upgrade the aging LNB to a low noise Dual Output version. This provided a second feed into the bedroom area.

For those of you who know Chichley Hall it is a Grade 1 lusted building and as such any Satellite equipment installed on the site had to be managed to ensure that nothing was visible from any elevation at ground level. This was achieved by working closely with the expert team at the Royal Society who in turn worked very hard with the local planning department.

A 60cm transparent dish was selected for the installation and was installed on the roof space, to the front edge of the roof looking back across towards Astra 28.2′E. This means that the dish is below the inside of the roof wall and therefore not at all visible from ground level.

A special Low Noise (0.1dB) LNB (Low Noise Block Downconverter) was used to ensure that an excellent high quality (80 – 85% Signal Quality) was maintained. The dish feeds though approximately 50m of cables across the inside of the building terminating behind the bar area, and providing the television signal to the large television on the main wall of the bar. There are a further 3 cables for future expansion of the system.

DISEqC Anyone?

This is a DISEqC Switch. It allows the user to change between several dishes without the user ever being aware of the change. Particularly useful if you wish to have various fixed dishes and would like to utilise a single receiver.

: DISEqC Switch For Hotbird 13′E, Astra 28.2′E and Astra 19′E

This particular switch is being used to switch between three fixed satellite dishes, in this case, Hotbird 13′E, Astra 28.2′E and Astra 19′E but the combinations are endless. These switches are available in configurations of two, four and eight inputs all to single output, so up to eight dishes to one receiver. A good box that can drive this is something like a Fortec Star, Media Centre, or Dreambox. If you would like further advise on these clever little switches then don’t hesitate to contact us.

Neitherfield, Replacement Hotbird 13′E Dish.

This was our first job here at Milton Keynes Satellite Services, a simple replacement of an old 43cm Zone 1 Dish with a single LNB to a 60cm Raven Zone 2 Dish with a quad LNB. This was required as the owner wanted to watch Italian FTA (Free To Air) programs in two rooms. We also had to reprogram an ex-Sky decoder to receive the Italian Channels.

As you can see the dish was installed on a garage at the end of his garden which provided the clearest view of the satellite. The existing cable run was augmented with a second new run to the new location within the house. The cable run was indeed around 30m.

The signal quality initially was around 60 – 65% across the bands. Once the 60cm Raven was installed this increased to 95-98% signal quality. This system has now been in place for a little over a year and has proven to maintain signal quality in all but the worst conditions. Even throughout the recent snow the owner reports that there was no noticeable pixelation or service outages.
